Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway? That's a 'Brilliant Thing'
Daniel Radcliffe is more than Harry Potter; he’s also one of the best stage actors working today. From How to Succeed and The Cripple of Inishmaan to The Lifespan of a Fact and Merrily We Roll Along, you can’t take your eyes off him.
That streak continues in Every Brilliant Thing, which tackles serious material with a light touch.
Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe’s one-person play is about a man who starts a list of all the things that make life worth living after his mother’s first suicide attempt. This project sustains him through difficult times as a child, teenager, and adult.
While Radcliffe is the only cast member, the play relies heavily on improvisation and audience participation. As people take their seats, Radcliffe solicits volunteers to play his partner, father, counselor, and family vet, among other roles. Other audience members shout answers when Radcliffe asks for “brilliant things” (written on cards the actor also distributes before the show).
This conceit could grow old quickly, but Radcliffe’s boundless energy makes it work. To preempt entrance applause, he launches right into the play (there isn’t even an announcement about cell phone use). From there, he doesn’t stop moving for 70 minutes, taking the audience on an emotional and memorable ride.
Every Brilliant Thing is a powerful piece anchored by a charismatic performer. It’s an early highlight of 2026 on Broadway.
